Cliff Herman Lifetime Service Award

Cliff Herman was given a Lifetime Service award from Wranglers for all of his hard work, support, and unwavering commitment to keeping Salt Creek Wranglers functioning and in the best shape possible.

He began in the 1970s helping build the arena and pens, that are no longer here, for Thursday night ropings. Not only were his sons involved but his wife ran the cook shack as well. He continued to be of service to anyone who needed help and has taken care of our arena for many years.
Cliff is a lifetime member of Wranglers and lives up to that title in every way. We thank Cliff for his past innumerable hours of help and assistance and can only hope that he may see fit to stay around and continue to be a role model for the true meaning of service.

Tails N Trails 4-H Club Gives Back to Salt Creek Wranglers

Pictured is the Tails N Trails 4-H club at the 2019 Lancaster County Fair.

Tails N Trails, a Lancaster County 4-H club, recently received the 2020 Governor's Agricultural Excellence Award. The $500 grant is sponsored by NIFA and the Nebraska 4-H Foundation. The purpose of the award is to allow 4-H clubs to complete service work in the community.

4-H leader, Kelsey Ebke, founded the club in 2017. She stated, “we have been using the [Salt Creek Wranglers] arena for our 4-H riding meetings and we so appreciate it, so we wanted to give back!”

The 4-H club will be improving the Salt Creek Wranglers show grounds by painting the fences and arena.

The Salt Creek Wranglers Board of Directors and members would like to thank Tails N Trails for their support. We are thrilled to have you use our arena for ring practice, and we are so thankful you chose to give back to our organization!

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

In following local, state, and federal recommendations and mandates regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), the SCW show scheduled for April 4th is canceled. We will continue to monitor the situation. If possible we will reschedule. Future cancelations will be announced closer to scheduled event dates. Please check back frequently for updates!

The format of clean up day will also be altered to abide by local, state, and federal recommendations and mandates while also allowing us to make necessary improvements and updates to the show grounds. Once details are finalized, we will post them on the website and our Facebook page.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Letter from the President

Dear Salt Creek Wranglers Members,

I am your 2020 Salt Creek Wranglers President, Sally Mulford. For those of you who show at the Wranglers shows, I most often can be seen showing my paint horse, Seventeen. I live in Denton with my husband AJ, 1 dog, 2 cats, varying numbers of guinea fowl and 6 horses. AJ spent many years breeding, raising and showing horses with his kids in the Hastings area. I, on the other hand, grew up in the middle of Tulsa, Oklahoma and began riding at the age of 15, riding double on my friend’s horse down a very busy street in the middle of town. My uncle eventually let me use one of his roping horses for 2 years. Fast forward 25 years and 2 sons before I got back to riding. Let me just say, I really envy the kids in 4H; what a wonderful way to learn the fundamentals. I still want to be in 4H! It has been a long hard journey toward my dream of being a good and competent rider. One of my favorite sayings is “Take big, audacious action in the direction of your dreams, and do not let the fact that you’re wetting your pants stop you.”

Before going any further, I would like to thank Jennifer Rawlinson and Maralee Sobotka for their many years of service on the Wranglers board. I also want to say an extra special thank you to the “First Lady” of Salt Creek Wranglers, Diane Olsen. We are grateful to have your knowledge and support to guide us as we move forward with the next stage of the Salt Creek Wranglers Story. I would also like to give a huge thank you to Carol Wolf for her fundraising efforts in 2019 that will continue to open doors for our club in the future.

Your new Wranglers board members are a very dynamic team that has a “git-er-done” attitude combined with a sense of openness, fairness, and responsibility to the club. The board will strive to be transparent in its actions, up front with expenditures, and will adhere to the by-laws while incorporating your ideas with those we come up with as a team. Our goal is to combine all of this into an exciting, fun, and successful show year!

The results of the poll that closed January 18 were taken into account as we formulated the 2020 show dates.

The board also hopes to offer at least one clinic this year; more information on this will be available in the future. This year will be fun and exciting; however, we will need to rely heavily on volunteers to make this season work. Our financial status requires a cash influx in order to perform much needed maintenance projects on our grounds. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. Salt Creek Wranglers is not the board, but the families and kids (even those of us over 40) who love and care for a very special type of pet, who enjoy showing off their beautiful animal, and who want to be around others who share this unique obsession, the horse. Horse ownership teaches our children responsibility, brings our families closer together, and gets everyone outdoors. Over the next few weeks, the board is asking every club member to actively seek out at least one donation for Wranglers. On our Website, we have provided two donation pages. One is for cash donations and the levels of advertising that the club can provide and the second is for class sponsorships. Please be sure when you are pursuing donations you state that, at this time, Wranglers is NOT able to provide a tax break as a charitable entity. Our advantage is in the form of advertising. We will create a banner of sponsors that will be put up along Coddington Road in order to reach out to the local traffic. Sponsor information will also be posted on our website and Facebook page. The board does plan to pursue reinstatement of our 501(c)(3) status; however, this may take as long as a year and will be an additional expense to the club.

As your President, it is my promise to keep you updated on progress on all fronts. The board and I appreciate each and every person who attends our shows, helping to make Salt Creek Wranglers one of the longest running saddle clubs in Nebraska. ~ 73 YEARS of NEBRASKA EQUINE HISTORY! ~ Now that’s Nebraska Strong!

With warmest regards,

Sally Mulford
